Storyboard & Opening Sequence
For our improved version of The Boss's Shadow, we completely restructured the opening using a detailed 26 shot storyboard. Our midterm moved too quickly into action, so this time we focused on building tension, slowly through dialogue, controlled pacing, and purposeful camera movement.
The entire sequence is filmed at night using dim, lowkey lighting to create a classic crime atmosphere.
Scene 1: Diner introduction
The opening begins with an establishing shot inside the diner. All four characters sit at a booth, introducing the main power dynamic immediately.
- The camera pans across each character as background music plays
Joey (The Boss) talks about the Yankees game and paying off players.
When Joey mentions the body still being in the trunk. The tone shifts. The lighting remains dim, and the music fades out.
Scene 2: Suspicion Forms
After the diner conversation, the two mafia members leave to handle the body.
The car reverses out of the lot, filmed from outside of the vehicle.
Scene 3: Car Interior
Inside the car
We shoot:
- Over the Shoulder
-Backseat perspective
Lucas begins complaining about joey controlling them. Jake defends him at first, but Lucas pushes the idea further
This confined car space represents pressure building.
Scene 4: The Bridge
We keep dialogue minimal here. The sound design will carry the moment.
Scene 5: The Watcher
We return to Joey and Scotty at the Diner.
Joey ask Scotty to keep an eye on Lucas and Jake because he sense something is off.
We intercut:
-Close ups of Joey and Scotty
- Shot from inside Scotty's car as he spies on the bridge
